I’m a new mom of advanced maternal age and my 6-month-old daughter is my favorite sidekick. I recently quit my marketing job so I could take care of her full time.
We’ve exclusively breastfed for the past 6 months and I plan to nurse her until she’s 12 months old. I’ll be tracking my daughter’s introduction to food and her relationship with it for the first few years of her life.
This is journey is about more than just getting her to eat veggies (although I’m hoping she will!). It’s about teaching her what a well-balanced, wholesome, healthy relationship with food looks like. Food is such a loaded subject for a lot of people nowadays. Disordered eating is a real struggle as is an epidemic of chronic gut-related diseases. IBS is no laughing matter! Our culture of abundance and almost limitless choice impacts the way we relate to food.
My hope is that as AB grows up she will understand and appreciate that:
- Food is fuel;
- Food is medicine;
- But most of all food is fun.
I’m not in any specific ‘camp’ (GF, paleo, low-carb, meatatarians) but generally I try and serve:
- Whole food
- Fewer processed things
- Local, seasonal ingredients, when possible
Thanks for following along!
